Welcome to The Little Upholsterer. I am based in Peasenhall, Suffolk and have a shop on the high street here between Emmetts Store and Creasey’s Butchers. This site is about about my ideas, future work and further establishing myself as a traditional upholsterer. The Story So far…

In 2007, I decided I wanted to train in Traditional Upholstery. I thought it would be simple to find a course – but with one possible training option some 3 hours away I realised I needed a plan if I was going to make this happen.

Over the next couple of years I built my own training programme, found a wonderful upholsterer willing to train me and now 5 years later I have a small workshop in Peasenhall, Suffolk where I combine my traditional upholstery skills, along with my love of textiles and textile restoration skills.

Traditional Upholstery has only recently been recognised by some as a craft, though we all know it is highly skilled. Hopefully with this recognition we will see the rise in this much needed but potentially dying out craft.

Inspiration and Ideas

Off to the V&A, and then Somerset House Wool Exhibition for the day. Hoping to have lots of ideas to update you with.

I get inspiration and ideas from all sorts of places…

I saw this in a shop in Woodbridge. The chair was covered in a bed spread type fabric. I think the fabric really works well with the shape of this chair – making it even more inviting and comfy.

A selection of work in progress…

lovely chair – I think might be an original ‘something’ as there is a lot of wear around the foot tread area. the piece has webbing on the top of the seat frame, but i have noticed tack marks on the underneath of the seat frame so am wondering if the webbing originally was on the underneath.

As I started to strip this the piece has began to fall apart… going to have to learn some wood work skills now!
